ENT for children
Care for the ears, nose and throat of children of all ages, including hearing tests for newborns and five-year-olds. Our standard is maximum patience, empathy and examinations without pain.
Children's problems we treat
Children are not small adults – they have different illnesses and different needs. Most often we treat problems with the adenoids, sore ears and inflamed tonsils, and we monitor hearing as a preventive measure. The examination is patient, gentle and playful so that the child is not afraid.

- repeated middle ear infections, earache
- fluid in the middle ear, blocked ears, hearing loss

- blocked nose, chronic and allergic rhinitis
- paranasal sinus infections
- nosebleeds
- earwax, foreign body in the ear or nose

Adenoids
What the adenoids are
The adenoids (adenoid vegetation) are soft tissue behind the nose, where the nose joins the throat. They are part of a child's immune system and everyone has them from birth. They grow most between the ages of three and seven, and then usually shrink. However, if they enlarge after repeated infections or because of allergy, they start to cause problems.
What problems they cause and how to recognise them
- permanently blocked nose, mouth breathing, dry lips
- snoring and restless sleep, sometimes pauses in breathing
- nasal speech, poor pronunciation, repeated colds and cough
- repeated middle ear infections, earache, blocked ears
- hearing loss, "doesn't react when I talk to him"
- tiredness, irritability and poorer concentration at school
What happens if it is not treated
Long-term enlarged adenoids needlessly harm a child. Repeated infections and fluid in the middle ear worsen hearing, and with it speech development and school results. A child who breathes through the mouth and sleeps badly is tired and ill more often, and long-term mouth breathing can also affect the development of the bite and face.
How the examination works
Examination of the nose and mouth, endoscopic camera – completely without pain. The examination is gentle and we do it patiently and without stress. Based on the findings we suggest further steps.
Hearing screening of five-year-olds

Since 1 March 2019 we have been carrying out hearing screening of five-year-olds as one of the few ENT clinics in the Olomouc Region. The examination is recommended by the Czech Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery under the methodological guideline of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic (Bulletin No. 11/2018).
It includes a clinical and audiometric examination – all completely painless and pleasant for the child. The aim is to identify children suspected of hearing impairment early and to start treatment.
Otoacoustic emissions in newborns
A quick and non-invasive (= pleasant) test of inner ear function. A small "earphone" with quiet sounds is placed in the ear – the child does not need to cooperate in any way. If the emissions are reduced or absent, we recommend further examination.
Good hearing is the basis of speech development
Undetected hearing problems can have a negative impact on speech development, language skills and a child's success – from birth and especially at school.
Hearing tests of newborns and five-year-olds contribute to proper mental development and ensure that any hearing problems do not go unnoticed and that your child thrives as they should.
Ear piercing
We recommend piercing ears for earrings at 3 to 6 months of age. The area can be numbed in advance with a gel. The price is CZK 150 per ear.
