Noise damage to hearing = a big problem

Loud sounds – short and long-term – tire the sensory hair cells in the inner ear. The result can be temporary and permanent hearing loss or ringing in the ears (tinnitus).

The safe noise limit is 85 dB – from this level hearing protection must be worn. Most people exposed to loud noise, however, never or rarely use hearing protection.

Who is at risk

Everyone who works in noise is at risk – whether at a workplace classified in a risk category (2R, 3 or 4) or at home using noisy tools. Also people who like to listen to loud music, and soldiers, hunters and shooters, among others.

Custom earplugs protect up to 115 dB; at even higher noise levels they are combined with ear defenders.

Early examination and prevention can prevent damage.

When you snore

Snoring is often related to the nose – blocked nasal passages, swollen mucous membrane, nasal polyps or a deviated septum. We will examine the cause painlessly and suggest treatment.

When your partner snores

When treatment options have failed, earplugs will help you. Sleeping earplugs reduce noise by about 24 dB, dampen snoring and street noise, and are comfortable even when sleeping on your side – best the custom-made ones.

Universal or custom earplugs?

Universal earplugs

Plug-type earplugs with an acoustic filter chosen for the activity, in sizes S, M and L. Suitable for occasional use – at a concert, in the workshop or for sleeping.

Custom earplugs

They are made from an impression of your ear canal, so they fit perfectly, do not fall out and are comfortable even when worn all day or during sleep. We take the impression for you right in the clinic, quickly and painlessly. The filter is chosen in the range of 10–26 dB, or differently according to your needs.

With good care, earplugs last up to 5 years. For children they need to be replaced more often because the ear grows.

Frequently asked questions

From what volume do I need to protect my hearing?

The safe limit is 85 dB. From this noise level hearing protection must be used – and the louder the sound, the shorter the time needed to cause damage. For comparison: the volume at concerts or when riding a motorbike routinely exceeds this limit.

How long do custom earplugs last?

With good care up to 5 years – it depends on the material, how they are worn and how they are handled.

How do I look after earplugs?

The acoustic filter can easily be removed from the mould. Wash the mould and treat it with a suitable product, rinse the filter only in clean water and then put it back.

Will I still hear speech with earplugs?

Yes. Quality earplugs with an acoustic filter mainly dampen harmful noise, while speech and important sounds from your surroundings remain clear. Thanks to a breathable membrane the ear can "breathe" even when worn for a long time, which reduces the risk of irritation and ear canal infection.

Do the earplugs meet standards?

Certified hearing protectors comply with standard EN 352-2 and carry the CE mark.
